Maths Centre runs a large range of 'fit for purpose' training courses
for educators. Some of the courses are accredited with UPE. Others have
been submitted to ETDPSETA (the qualification authority for education).
It is our intention to provide accredited training so that each school that
we work with has an in-service training co-ordinator to take developments
further, long after we have completed our programmes in a school.
- Mathematics Content & Methodology: Grades R-12.
- Understanding of learning outcomes at all levels.
- Content knowledge and skills necessary at each level.
- Matching learning resources to knowledge and skills.
- Teaching methodology.
- Increasing teaching and learning time.
- Key Teacher roles in accordance with Norms and Standards in education.
- Teachers as assessors & Portfolio management.
- Usage and making of effective learner support materials.
- Using calculators in the Intermediate, Senior and FET phases: Ordinary,
Graphic and Scientific as appropriate.
- Upgrading Teacher qualifications – University & SAQA accreditation.
- Operating Computers including Microsoft Office.
- Using ICT for mathematics learning.
- Computer Assisted and managed Instruction (CAI).
- Constructing websites.
- Mathematical modelling with IT.
- Dynamic geometry – Geometer's Sketchpad.
- Using IT to produce teaching and learning resources.
- Logo and Roamer – two excellent computerized, primary mathematics
learning resources.
- CD ROMs – integrated learning systems.
- Professional planning for Teaching, Learning and Assessment.
- Constructing whole-school policies and schemes of work.
- Charting learner progression.
- Charting teacher progression.
- Setting up a Mathematics Department.
- Training in systemic whole-school reform including a baseline self-evaluation.
- Management and leadership.
- Management of change.
