Standard Bank invited the principals of 14 schools in the surrounding area of Kuruman in the Northern Cape to explain their support and funding of Maths Centre intervention.
Standard Bank’s funding is used by Maths Centre to do training in Mathematics and Science, especially to learners that need the extra support.
|
Learners are assessed at the inception of the intervention to determine their level of Mathematics. Teaching begins after these pre-tests, and learner progression is constantly monitored.
Maths Centre also provides workshops for educators. During these workshops they are trained to improve teaching practices. Educators too are writing pre- and post-tests.
The local Standard Bank branch (Kuruman) “adopted” a couple of schools. This means they will teach the learners about personal finance, banking, internet banking and being responsible with money. Standard Bank also provides resources, volunteers and financial knowledge where schools need it.
