13 October 2011 – Maths Centre board member, Bev Counihan accompanied Maths Centre trainers for a class support visit at Monde Primary School.
The Maths Centre/EOH/Monde Primary School partnership is an encouraging example to us all. Robust, demanding and results-oriented. All three organisations have strong, inspirational leadership, high levels of accountability and buckets full of positive energy! Their partnership allows them to tackle a national issue in earnest, together. This is what it's all about.
Mrs. Simelane's Maths class was filled with memorable moments, as she so calmly went about teaching all 52 of the young Grade 5 learners. At no time whatsoever, was she flustered by the challenge of 52 youngsters, demanding and boisterous as they can be. Instead, her command of the subject was solid, and the lesson flowed as planned, keeping the learners attentive and participative. The lesson was structured and relaxed, with the learners eager to participate in the "capacity experiment" Mrs. Simelane had prepared for them.
Bev thanked the principal, Mrs. Manyathela and Mrs. Simelane, the Grade 5 teacher for a warm welcome and the culture which is maintained at the school.
